History

St. Barbara’s Memorial Nursing Home opened its doors on July 12, 1961, built as a memorial to those that lost their lives in the worst mine disaster in U.S history. Saint Barbara’s was chosen as our facility name for she was the patron saint of miners. A statue of her was placed on the property as a monument to the miners. The founders of St. Barbara’s wanted a way to give back to the community of Monongah, WV and the surrounding areas.

From its beginning, St. Barbara’s has strived to take special pride in providing quality care and services to the customers we serve. Here at St. Barbara’s, we are not only committed to providing our residents with the highest quality of medical services but also take great pride in doing so in a caring & family-like environment.

Our goal is to provide competitively priced services that exceed our resident’s expectations. These high standards apply in our interactions with everyone with whom we deal, including our residents, employees, other healthcare providers, companies with whom we do business, government entities to whom we report, and the public and private entities from who reimbursement for services is sought and received. Our employees must not only act in compliance with all applicable legal standards but with the highest ethical integrity, to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.
